Howard Fire – New Meadows Ranger District Start Date: August 17, 2013 Cause: Lightning Acres: 195 Percent Contained: 20% Helicopters: 3 Engines: 0 Wiland Fire Modules: 2 Total Perspnnel: 140 Location: 8 miles east of Riggins, and 3 miles south of the main Salmon River. The fire is on BLM lands under the fire protection of the Payette National Forest. Current Situation: The fire is burning in steep terrain on the Salmon River breaks. Firefighting personnel are going direct to contain the fire and are focused on the north side of the fire.
