Inciweb: Leggit (Wildfire): FAIRFIELD, ID….On July 2, 2013 lightning ignited the Leggit Fire. This area is characterized by steep, rocky and rugged terrain within the Sawtooth Wilderness, Idaho City Ranger District and the Fairfield Ranger District. The fire is currently 1147 acres and because of the extremely steep slopes, loose rocky soil, scattered trees and brush and challenging access in a remote area, managers have strong concerns for fire fighter safety. Forest managers however, are currently planning the appropriate response to this incident. A combination of water drops from helicopters and handline from crews are being utilized in the Ross Fork confluence area in an attempt to minimize spread. Handline has been completed in the Middle Fork Boise River corridor in case the fire continues northerly spread. Fire growth over the next few days is expected to be minimal. As planning and tactical strategy continues, managers will update local communities who may notice fire activity or smoke. Area closures... goo.gl/IU59SC
