Income-Based Scholarship and EdChoice Scholarship: what’s the difference? Leave a reply Ohio has a new scholarship program designed to give more families the opportunity to choose where their child goes to school! The Income-Based Scholarship Program will be joining Ohio’s other scholarship programs, which includes the EdChoice Scholarship Program. With the two scholarships so closely related, it can get confusing which one your child could be eligible for and which one to apply for if he or she is eligible for both. Any kindergartener from any part of the state who meets the income requirements is eligible for the Income-Based Scholarship. On the other hand, students in all grades and income levels are eligible for the EdChoice Scholarship, but they must be assigned to or attending a low-rated public school. If a kindergartener is eligible for the Income-Based Scholarship Program and the EdChoice Scholarship Program, he or she must take advantage of the EdChoice Scholarship. Income-Based Scholarship Program Eligibility Guidelines Must be an incoming, first-time kindergartener Family income has to be 200% or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines Logistics Only 2,000 scholarships available Worth $4,250 to use toward tuition at participating private schools Application Step 1: get the scholarship application here Step 2: print out the application, fill it out and mail it with all required documents to the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) by July 31 at 4 p.m. Step 3: contact private schools in your area that you think will fit your child’s needs, and ask them if they will be participating in the Income-Based Scholarship Program Step 4: apply and be accepted to the private school through their regular admission standards Deadline to apply is July 31 EdChoice Scholarship Program
