Independence Day Message from High Commissioner Deborah Stokes On behalf of the Government and people of Australia, I would like to congratulate Papua New Guinea on achieving your 38th year of Independence. On this auspicious occasion, we reflect on the deep and enduring ties between our two countries. Ours is a relationship built on mutual respect, shared history, common democratic values and close people-to-people links. It is a relationship to celebrate. Australia is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Papua New Guinea as neighbours and friends.
