Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday, declared last Saturday’s Niger East senatorial by-election inconclusive. The commission said this followed the electoral malpractices recorded in six local government councils in the zone and immediately fixed September 6 as the date for a new election in the affected polling units. INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Emmanuel Onucheyo said the affected LGCs are Bosso, Chanchaga, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi and Shiroro. Giving the result of the LGCs so far concluded, he said out of 22, 029 votes cast at the election, APC scored14, 240; APGA 17; PDP, 6,666; SDP 55 with 897 invalid votes. He said following the snatching of result sheets in Beji wards of Bosso LGC, the result of the affected ward was cancelled. He said elections were not conducted in Kofar Sarkin Fada polling unit of Chanachage a LGC. However, the result of the council apart from the affected unit indicated that APC got 12, 998, APGA 323, PDP 6, 812 while SDP scored 26. The total votes cast was 20,792. In Munya LGC, a case of ballot box snatching, though later returned was recorded as well as a case of masked men that caused confusion in Gulmi ward. However, the score line indicated that APC got 4, 472 votes, APGA 103, PDP 8,628 while SDP got 59 votes. In Paikoro LGC, there was a case of ballot box snatching and eruption of fighting in Panowa and Feche Kuci units which forced the electoral officials to leave their duty posts. In Paikoro LGC, APC got 12, 585, APGA 291, PDP 14, 896 and SDP 72. In Tugan Bako polling unit of Rafi LGC a ballot box was forcefully taken away from electoral officials. The result of the LGC so far announced indicated that APC got 7, 789, APGA 571, PDP 7, 670 while SDP scored 84. In Shiroro LGC there was reported cases of fighting in Erena, Gurmana, Manta polling units that led to the tampering of election material thereby leading to the cancellation of the result. However, in Gurara LGC the election was conducted without hitches in the 10 wards of the LGC, where APC scored 5,782, APGA 144, PDP 11,818 and SDP 36. The election in Suleja LGC was also smooth. In Tafa LGC the election went smoothly with APC having 3, 953, APGA 105, PDP 8, 734 and SDP 20.
