Indian festivals specially Holi and Diwali are significant in many - TopicsExpress

Indian festivals specially Holi and Diwali are significant in many ways and the first and foremost among these significance is exercise of brain. exercise of brain? yes exercise. Many intellectuals who are otherwise unemployed or who leave their brain to get rusted rest of the year get something to think about. Holi is coming and many great thinks have start advocating waterless holi to save water and honestly I support them for their idea for waterless holy though my reason for supporting them is to save myself from thanda pani in thand :p on serious note my question is that how much water can you save by one day of austerity? or is it a solution to save water through out the year? Is it the only occasion when people flood tanks of water on roads? Well the answer is no, without any doubt. About an year or 2 back I read an article about housing projects in Pune which was backed by picture of flats which had private summing pools and in another pictures there were poor ladies who in one hand were caring their babies and in other hand they had urn to fetch water from far away place because the level of water in their own area (suburb of Pune) diminished drastically in 10 years. And yes those building planes were approved by the bodies of same government who request people to save water on Holi with the ending line jan hit main jari. Jan bhi hum, Hit bhi hamara isliye water save karne ki responsibility bhi sirf humari and Rich can use the resources as they please. And this was not the only housing project which was/is providing private swimming pools, in Delhi NCR alone there are hell lot of builder who are luring their elite customers with this feature (but we are not of those :p). Every summer I hear about the hue and cry over water in Delhi but at the same time I see flooding of n liters of water in near about every household to wash cars, to wash their courtyards and patios, to water the plants which are meant for area with good monsoon conditions, to settle down the dust in front of their house, etc And yes these households are hardly 20 kms from Delhi. Most of these house have submersible installed and at times they forget to switch off their submersible while filling the tanks. But government have no control over this wastage and no intellectual have any solution to stop this. I am not asking these intellectuals that why they are mum on festivals of blood. Why they do not have problems with sky shoots on new year eves or why they are always after hindu celebration to protect the environment. My only question is, are we protecting the environment on rest of the days of year? Shall we not think about environment on other days? Shouldnt government do something about wastage of water in different industries? Shouldnt these intellectuals and NGOs protest to shut all the factories which are responsible for depletion environment and natural resources? Why their brains are active only on these 2 days of Holi and Diwali?
