Indigo Deli, Ambience Mall, New Delhi. - TopicsExpress

Indigo Deli, Ambience Mall, New Delhi. A Bombay institution comes to town. And about time. Indigo deli opens its doors before the big boy Indigo itself. But a little birdie tells me Indigo too will be up and about by July. Ambience Mall is clearly becoming a food Mecca. So Zambar bows out and the Deli bows in. There is. as in their Bombay outlets. a cool design vibe. This one is all wood and Tom Dixon lamps. It is a smart place though not exceedingly large. Wonder how they will deal with the Delhi hordes when they descend and descend they will. I was very kindly asked to host a table and I did. The room was filled with people I largely knew so that added to the evening. A big fat blackboard announced the specials of the day and the food sort of flowed to the table. We ordered a la carte too. A citrus salad was the first dish to pop up. Good stuff. Then chicken wings, these were great with a smoky sauce of sorts. They got polished off pronto. My bro in law was one of the 6 on the table and I think he ate them all. It is nuttsie how much food he can put away. I think it is a Dosco or a boarding school thing. Eat or die !!!! I got a tenderloin burger with a fried egg. That is kinda bliss for me. The egg on a great burger and great it was. I normally have the barbecue chicken burger which is off the bloody chart but decided to try something new. Am glad I did. The sister had a tuna sandwich. She gave it a thumbs up. The gal with a million allergies ie gluten, diary etc etc was served a salmon steak by Rahul Akerkar. Mighty sweet of him given that he had a full house on his hands. The beauteous Mandira has a pulled pork burger. The bro in law had the same and then had a Ruben sandwich. I think I may have mis spelt that. It was tenderloin, cheese and something else. The happy grin on his face basically said it all. Got to say the driving force behind this very successful chain, Malini Akerkar was a wonderful and warm host. We ended the evening with a bunch of ice creams. Salted pecan. Divine. Sour cherry and white chocolate. Even better. Banana mocha. Super. And one more that was goodish. This will do well. The mall crowds will lap it up. Now they have to open in South Delhi. Khan Market or Jor Bagh. But super to have this in our city. Go and check it out people. It is excellent stuff.
