Industrialist-philanthropist Andrew Carnegie was born 179 years ago today of meager means in Scotland. After emigrating as a child to the United States, he had become the worlds wealthiest man by 1901. Carnegie defined success as The power with which to acquire whatever one demands of life without violating the rights of others. The Carnegie Foundation helped to build 2,509 libraries by 1929, with 1,689 in the U.S., 660 in Britain and Ireland, 125 in Canada, and others in Australia, New Zealand, Serbia, the Caribbean, Mauritius and Fiji.
