Inflation theory gains credibility! Cosmology has long struggled with its own missing link, how did a singular point become the expanding Universe. In the 1980s Alan Guth conceived of a sudden rapid period of hyper-expansion, faster than the speed of light that lasted for the briefest of time, which became known as inflation theory. Today scientists have released news of their detection of gravitational waves, a prediction that comes out of inflation theory and gives serious weight to its validity. While there will be many more years of follow up research and verification, this result will have major implications for our understanding of the Universe.
