Note: For more information about the rainfall forecast and distribution, please contact Sudan Meteorological Authority- SMA- Forecast Center- Tel: +249-183-772292 Areas Affected: Field visits conducted by SHABAB AL-BALAD volunteers showed that 150 families are trapped in Al-Nizeila (south of Sharg Elneel). The youth of Sharg Elneel have organized themselves to map affected areas and warn their communities as well as gave situation analyses for others who are interested in providing support. SHABAB AL-BALAD figures for those affected in Khartoum State are remain at over 72,000 people (approximately 14,000 homes). However after the rain on August 9th, more affected areas have been identified in Khartoum; data collection process is going on for more up to date and exact figures. The areas identified up to date are as follows: Sharg Elneel: Marabee Elshareef, Um Ashosh, Kiryab, Hayy Elnasr, Hayy Elmustafa, Alsalama Sharig (Fadni street), Soba Sharig, Taybat alahamda, Umdawanban, Alolojab/Ed Babiker, Ramallah Karari: Alfateh 1, 2, 3 and 4 Umbadda: Amriya, Darelsalam, Hashaba Khartoum North: Elizergab, Umm Alqura, Aldoroshab, Izbat Kafouri, Bawga Needs: SHABAB AL-BALAD volunteers have been collecting data from affected areas using field visits, questionnaires, and interviews; all figures are then crosschecked against the Sudan population census for verification. Needs differ between areas depending on the extent of affectation, but generally needs are as follows: - Potable water - Food - Tents - Mosquito nets - Blankets/tarps - Sleeping mats - Clothes - Jerry cans - Cooking sets - Flashlights or rechargeable LED batteries Support Provided To Date: SHABAB AL-BALAD has been providing food, water, plastic sheets and clothes to affected families daily, but the volume of needs is great. Tents, mosquito nets and blankets have been repeatedly and urgently requested by those affected as many are now sleeping outdoors after their homes were destroyed by the rain and flash-floods. However, tents are expensive and most donations received go to food for immediate need response, as many people who lost their homes are entirely dependent on ready-made food provided by SHABAB AL-BALAD. SHABAB AL-BALAD is currently seeking support from nutritionists and trauma specialists for advice on support provided. It is also exploring recovery and infrastructure support that can be provided as soon as possible. If you can help in these areas, please contact SHABAB AL-BALAD on the numbers below. Regular updates will be posted. In the meantime, we count on your support for these families in this tragic situation.
