Informações da sede mundial aos participantes do Congresso Mundial sobre o vírus ebola. JCI World Congress in Leipzig is approaching very fast. In less than one month we will meet in Germany. In particular, our organization is aware that you may have some concerns about the current Ebola outbreak, and specifically about the UN worker who died from Ebola in Leipzig, Germany recently. We would like to clarify that the patient was flown in for treatment after being infected with Ebola in Liberia. The St. Georg clinic in Leipzig that treated this patient stated that there was, no danger of the disease spreading following the treatment of the deceased patient. Ebola is a virus that spread through direct human contact with infected blood, mucus or other bodily fluids. It is not an airborne virus. With the way that the virus is transmitted, the most at-risk people of being afflicted with Ebola are those who have close contact to a patient, such as health-care workers. We are confident that delegates who will be traveling to Leipzig from West Africa will be especially cautious and scrutinize their health prior to traveling and during their trip. Our very own Deputy Secretary General Arrey Obenson visited recently Nigeria and he had personally experienced, witnessed and confirmed the tremendous airport health controls in this country, which is now declared free from Ebola virus transmission by World Health Organization (WHO) thanks to the safety measures put in place. JCI will continue to closely monitor the situation, and as we get closer to World Congress, we will keep all delegates updated the situation. We will be following the advice of the World Health Organization and Local Health Authorities. At this moment, please consider that according to Stefan Gruttner, Health Minister for the State of Hesse, Germany’s biggest airport (Frankfurt) is not at risk of infection. All things considered, at this time we do not anticipate there being an issue with the 2014 JCI World Congress in Germany, where we will all kick off the celebrations for the 100th Anniversary of the JCI Movement.
