Insensitive behavior! April Fools’ Day pranks sometimes involve frightening, upsetting and terrifying others with false news or tricks. Such acts inflict needless disturbance, worry and anxiety – and might also lead to trauma and distress. Frightening and Terrifying Jokes are insensitive! …and Islam forbids such irresponsible and inconsiderate behavior! Abd al-Rahman Ibn Abi Laylaa narrates an incident when the Sahabah were traveling with the Prophet. A few Sahabah took away the arrows of someone, who had fallen asleep. When the man woke up, he was troubled and alarmed (because his arrows were missing). The people laughed. “What are you laughing at?” the Prophet inquired. “Nothing, except that we took away the arrows, and he got alarmed.” replied the Sahabah. “It is NOT permissible for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim.” the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) stated plainly. - See, Abu Dawood (5004), and Musnad Ahmad.
