Insert ... ** .. So, life has been okay. I wouldnt really say it was normal, because I am not familiar with a normal life. After our family outing that day, we all went back home, we all needed to hear about Silus stay in a foreign country. We got home and all gathered around the dining room table.. Me: I still cant believe that you guys pulled a prank on me. Thami laughed out loud. I didnt find it funny, the state I was in that previous night wasnt a laughing matter. Sino: Im sorry wethu bhuti, but it wasnt a prank. I was really emotional. Me: its okay. Water under the bridge now. Silu: can I have the spotlight back wethu bhutSihle? Me: the what? Silu: hehehe, youre stealing my shine! Please. Sino: the spotlights back on you baby girl. Myeke lo ungu Sihle, ufuna kuhoywe yena. Silu: anyway... I had a great time there. But one thing aunt Zoe always told us was to be ourselves. So ke bhutSihle, I heard that you were expecting me to adopt the accent. Me: so youre bringing the spotlight back to my direction now? My phone rang, just before she could reply. I didnt recognise the number, so I picked up. Me: hello? Caller: hey, uhm, unjani? Me: ndi right. Wena? Caller: ndi right nam. I was just, uhm, hows life? Hows Silu? The voice. I might have not been able to recognise the number, but I recognised the voice. It was Khitha. Me: Silu is okay, shes doing fine. Thanks. Khitha: oh. Okay. When is she coming back? Now, I had to be smart about my reply to that. See, if Id say Silu was around, she would offer to come and greet her. And if I say shes not around, Silu and her big mouth might blow my cover. I cleared my throat.. Words were stuck on my throat.. Khitha: hello? Me: uuh, yes. Listen, can we talk later? Im kinda busy right now. Khitha: ofcourse. Bye then. Me: yes, bye. I hung up. I didnt get why everyone was staring at me. Me: what? Sino: hee hay wethu, drop the attitude. Me: Im sorry. I need to go and lie down . Im kinda tired. I got up. Me: oh, and.. Tomorrow Ill have to go back to school. I have a lot to do. Thami managed to nod. Sino was staring at Silu. Okay, I went to the spare room and threw myself on the bed. I was happy. My heart was in the right place and my family was filled with joy too. I must have fallen asleep in the midst of my thoughts, because Silu came to wake me up later. She shook me, and I opened my eyes. Silu: bhuti? Me: ja? Silu: can I tell you something? Me: yeah, sure. I sat up, rubbing my eyes. Silu: I miss my mother. I just.. I feel like if she was still around, life would have been different. She looked down. Me: heey, hey look at me. She looked at me.. Me: dont worry. Life will still be perfect. We have a man greater and more powerful than our mother. He promised never to leave nor forsake us. Silu: I know bhuti, but umama- Me: sssshh, umama is gone. Lets allow her to rest, in peace. She fiddled with her fingers for a while. Me: jonga, how about we go and visit our house? Silu: kukho bani phaya? Me: abantu abahlala phaya. Come, lets go. I got up. She got up too .. Me: okay wait, I have to go and freshen up. She sat down again as I went to the bathroom to wash my face and rinse my mouth. Then I went back to my room, Silu was playing with my phone. I must have taken it out of my pocket before falling asleep, but I didnt remember. Silu: bhuti, usis Khitha ufounile. My heart nearly stopped. Me: waphendula???? Silu: yes, she was so excited to hear that Im back. Me: oh. Come, lets go ke. Silu: wait bhuti, usis Khitha uyeza kaloku. Me: haybo? Kanti didnt we have plans na? Silu: we did. But uyeza ke, ndithini mna? Me: suthetha njalo nam!! Silu: Im sorry, but uyeza ke, ndithi- Me: Silusapho!! Silu: okay fine, Im sorry. Me: sapha le foun ke. She handed me my phone. Me: so what now? We wait for her? Silu: yes, please bhuti. I miss her. Me: okay then. She got up and walked out.. I decided to follow after her, to the living room.. Everyone had this excited look. I sat down and stared at the TV .. Sino: so, is she going to spend the whole day here? Silu: I dont know. I hope so. Thami: Sihle, how do you feel about this? Me: what? I was still staring at the TV .. Thami: Khithas coming over. Me: uza ku Silusapho. Thami: thats not what I asked. Sino: I dont think Sihle has a problem wethu. Silu likes Khitha. And we all know and respect that Sihles going to marry Zizipho. Me: Zipho. Sino: sorry.. Me: yeah! I was scared. I was scared that my family wasnt going to love Zipho the way they loved Khitha. Thami: but if hes not comfortable with it, we should- Sino: baby relax, Sihle is an outspoken young man. He would have voiced his feelings out if he wasnt okay. But, I wasnt really outspoken. Or was I? Thami: okay then, but I was just making sure. Sino: well, dont. Sihle is perfectly fine. My phone rang, I picked up .. Me: hello? Caller: hey, ndisendleleni. Can you please help me with the directions? Me: yeah, sure. Ill sms them to you. Caller: okay cool. She hung up. Silu: nguye? Uthini? Me: shes on her way, so she wants- Silu: really? Ooh bethuna. I cant wait to see her. La sisi once took me out to the movies kaloku. Me: she wants me to send her the- Sino: shes fond of you Silu, infact, shes nice and sweet, with a warm and welcoming heart. I breathed out and sent Khitha the directions. Sacrificing my own comfort and happiness for my sisters happiness. Such is life.. Few minutes later, someone knocked on the front door .. I knew it was her. It had to be her, because we were not expecting anyone else. Sometimes, you need to face temptation head-on in order to determine how strong you are... Sometimes, running away is not an option..
