Inspired Golden Memories… ‘Ama Rasa Pem’… This song album of one of the most revered popular talented unique songstresses Srimathi Thilakarathne, titled ‘Amarasa Pem’ has a collection of 15 songs sung melodiously by Srimathi Thilakarathne in nineteen seventies. She is one of the very enchanting popular songstresses who has a unique singing style, infusing the Sri Lankanness to her songs. People of this country have listened and enjoyed her songs repeatedly with sheer admiration during last four decades or so. Her singing prowess has captivated, and fascinated listeners of every sort. All songs are equally popular and extraordinarily memorable. Another unique feature in these songs is that out of the 15 songs found here, 13 songs have been written by one of the most popular talented wordsmith, veteran Premakirthi de Alwis, who did magic with his lyrical, poetic prowess. He knew the art of expressing human feelings, emotions and realities, in catchy memorable simple wordings. The tunes composed by the most veteran legendary musician, singer, great Victor Rathnayake (10 songs) also mesmerize and captivate people’s minds and emotions forever. Thus Srimathi Thilakarathne, Premakirthi de Alwis, Victor Rathnayake fixture was a gigantic accomplishment. This album contains a popular beautiful duet of a well-known film ‘Kesara Sinhayo’ screened in very early seventies. The song was ‘Sansun Ruwan Hada Mandiraye’, originally sung in the film by Srimathi Thilakarathne and the legendary icon, admired melodious singer Milton Perera. Popular singer Priyankara Perera perfectly replaces Milton Perera’s voice in this album. Singer Victor Rathnayake accompanies songstress Srimathi Thilakarathne in two popular songs here, ‘Adara Gangule’, the super hit of all times, and ‘Mey Mulu Ahasama’, another loved song. Srimathi Thilakarathne has also infused her vocal inspiration, as a playback singer in most famous Sinhala films, ‘Jeewanthi’, ‘Samanala Kumariyo’, ‘Ranthilaka’, ‘Nayana’, ‘Davena Pipasaya’, ‘Rosa Mal Thunak’, ‘Jeevana Ganga’, ‘Tharanga’, ‘Gijulihiniyo’ and many other films, screened in nineteen seventies, the so called golden era of Sinhala Cinema in Sri Lanka. She sang together with veteran singer H.R. Jothipala in famous Sinhala films ‘Tharanga’, and ‘Rosa Mal Thunak’ in nineteen seventies. The beautiful song in ‘Tharanga’ was ‘Kanden kandata,’ in which there were chorus singers also. The song was musically composed by great musician maestro W.D. Amaradewa. The song has been a hit all the time, with this combination. ‘Moravi Adare Hithe’ is also one of the memorable songs of Srimathi Thilakarathne, sung together with the enchanting singer Milton Perera for the film ‘Gijulihiniyo’ in early seventies, a tune with hypnotic resonations, though it is rarely heard in present times.
