Instruction to removing ice dam 1. Put on work gloves and nonslip shoes before attempting to remove the ice dam. Place a ladder at the edge of the roof line so you can easily reach at least 3 to 4 feet onto the edge of the roof. 2. Climb up the ladder, carrying a roof rake or a push broom. Extend the rake or broom 3 to 4 feet up the roof and pull it downward to remove the snow accumulation and push it off onto the ground. Repeat the process along the entire edge of the roof. 3. Open a package of women’s pantyhose and cut off the legs near the top, using scissors. Turn the legs so the open ends face upward. 4. Hold open one leg of the hose, or have an assistant do it. Fill the hose leg approximately one-third to one-half full of a granular deicing product containing potassium chloride. Tie the open end of the hose in a knot to secure it. 5. Carry the hose sections up to the roof and lay them end to end in the gutter, directly on top of the ice buildup. Continue making and installing the hose pieces until you reach the end of the gutter. ow.ly/GVNlq
