Instructions for Rumpelstiltskin Keyboard 2 in case of panics - inspired by Ben Finns original Sibelius manuals from the 90s - by musicians for musicians... -- TO SWITCH ON KBD 2 COMPUTER (takes 5mins): 1) Switch on Mac Mini using small indented button in back right of brushed metal square computer case. Apple chime will sound, and computer will start booting up. 2) Wait 10 seconds 3) Reach over the back of the Mac Mini and carefully hold the white (monitor) connector plugged into the back of the mac mini. Gently pull out the white connector, then push it in again fully. The display should come on. If not, repeat step 3). 4) Wait 2mins for computer to fully boot up to the Apple desktop. 5) Double-click the Mainstage file icon on the desktop (v ) 6) Wait for Mainstage to load the session 7) Click Perform in the top left of the session window. Session should enter perform mode in full screen. 8) Check that the patches are loading and playing back without being sluggish. -- IF NO SOUND COMING OUT, OR PATCHES SLUGGISH, work your way down this list until all is resolved. 1) Check keyboard switched on. 2) If still no sound, reach over to back of mac mini, and carefully hold the left-most USB connector that is plugged in to the back of the computer. Gently pull this out and push it in again to the same slot. Having pulled it out and put it back in, check it is firmly inserted again. 3) If still no sound, quit Mainstage, and load it again by double-clicking the file icon on the desktop (takes c.2mins to reload session) 4) If still nothing, restart computer, then reload Mainstage. -- IF STILL NOTHING: 1) Open up Mainstage again, if it is closed. 2) If in full-screen perform mode, click on the cross at the top left of the screen, or press Escape, to return to edit mode. 3) In Mainstage, click on the Mainstage menu bar at the top Left of the screen. Scroll down and click Preferences. 4) The preferences window will open. 5) Click on Audio. Audio menu opens. 6) To the right near-ish the top, click on Advanced Settings 7) Change I/O Buffer Size to 128 Samples. This resets the drivers. Then CHANGE IT BACK TO 256 Samples. NB it is very important to change it back to 256, otherwise the computer may crash mid-show. Press OK! -- IF *STILL* NO SOUND: - Save up a version, and restart Mainstage. IF *STILL BLOODY NOTHING* - Call THJ, and I will update audio interface drivers over the phone! IF **THJ NOT ANSWERING**, as a last case scenario: - There is a macbook pro with an exact clone of the mac mini beneath your feet. - All you have to do is plug computer into the mains, fire it up (no password necessary, just press return when it asks for a password) - find and carefully unplug firewire cable from back of mac mini and plug it into the firewire connector on the left hand side of macbook - Macbook should work. If it doesnt, attempt todays show as a duet.
