Insurgency: NURTW removes abandoned vehicles from motor parks in Ebonyi: The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ebonyi, on Wednesday embarked on the removal of abandoned vehicles in all motor parks across the state. The state chairman of the union, Chief Anthony Ewa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki that the measure was part of efforts to secure the parks and protect the lives of commuters. He said the exercise was being carried out in conjunction with the state Ministry of Works and Transport. He said that the union had inaugurated monitoring teams in all motor parks across the state to scrutinise commuters and vehicles coming in and going out of the parks. “As you know, security is not the concern of the government alone but a collective effort of all and sundry; Nigerians should pool resources to combat the menace.“Membership of boko haram is not written on anyone’s face.“Since some Nigerians love money so much, they could mortgage their conscience to be agents of the sect.“This is the reason we ensured that people with proven integrity were selected to be members of the monitoring team at the motor parks.”Ewa said the union was partnering Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to secure the parks and ensure the safety of lives and property. “The abduction of the Chibok school girls and the spate of bombings in some parts of the country is an abominable act and dehumanising.“Nigerians should, therefore, fast and pray for God’s intervention,” Ewa said.
