Interesting - but this author is too respectful of great wealth, most of which has been earned with a share illegal and unethical practices, including bribing politicians to change laws, monopolistic practices, and worker exploitation. In the world of great wealth, most violations of the law are but hand slaps, if that, and they get to keep the bulk of ill-gotten gains. Here are three reasons to tax away the wealth of the super-rich, or, as I put it, tax millionaires to death, that is tax them down to mere millionaire status. 1. Enormous wealth distorts society, business, politics and personal relations. 2. We no longer need extreme wealth in the hands of individuals. We have many mechanisms to pool wealth to fund large endeavors. 3. We can. We tax the poor so there is no argument against taxing the rich. I favor a cap on wealth - and mores where those who reach the wealth cap are expected to devote their lives in public service to accrue additional status.
