Interesting analysis of the Gurley situation from a lawyer: Last Spring Bryan Allen, sports memorabilia dealer, pays Todd at least $400 to sign items. Fast forward to early OCT 2014, about two (2) weeks ago. Memorabilia dealer, whos also a Gator supporter, wants Todd to sign more items once Todd becomes front-runner for Heisman Trophy. Todd declines to sign. At that point Allen blackmails Todd, and threatens to go public with the video unless Todd provided more autographs. After TG didnt budge, Allen went to ESPN/TMZ/CBS with hopes of being paid for the lead. TG went to compliance and advised of situation. UGA Athletic Department and fesses-up about receiving $400 for autographs. UGA puts Todd into contact with prominent defense atty in Birmingham, AL and pays for the representation, per NCAA guidelines. UGA sends representative to meet with Bryan Allen. UGA representative confirms with Allen that UGA knows about the extortion of Todd Gurley, and confirms Allens possession of other signed memorabilia from various current college football players at other schools, and that some of the Gurley signed items are, in fact, phony. Todd Gurley placed into protective custody by GBI because hes a material witness in a criminal investigation regarding attempted extortion, racketeering, and fraud. Allen informed of federal criminal statues that prohibit extortion, fraudulent sale of sports memorabilia, and civil liability if Allens inducement of Todd Gurley causes UGA to lose games, and thereby post-season revenues, which it would claim from Allen. Allen informed of prominent UGA alumnus, and well known ATL defense atty, Ed Garland, who could represent Allen should Allen need a lawyer . . . It should be obvious to many that Allen is in trouble, facing possible federal criminal charges of extortion, forgery, selling fraudulent merchandise. End Game for Allen: He needs to say he paid Todd less than $300, then recant any other monies he previously claimed Todd received. Otherwise he may be facing jail time. Those who claim to know Bryan Allen say Allen is a known fraud, crook, and shyster. Allen also told folks, bragged, boasted, he would determine the winner of GA-FL, he would end Todds college career. Silver Lining-> Bryan Allen is very fortunate some crazy fanatic hasnt already made Bryan Allen dead.
