Interesting debate here regarding the popular trend of AirBnB. Remember when everyone you knew was doing home exchanges for their family vacations? What a great concept - as well as being an affordable way to connect people to other cultures and lifestyles all around the world - heck, its worthy of UN project status in my opinion. No one seemed to complain, perhaps because there was no $$ exchanged? You listed your place and checked out theirs and made a decision based on attributes you judged a fair exchange. You took the risk of possible loss or damage to your property because you are the property owner with, well, property ownership rights. So the issue here is $. Money out of somebody elses pocket (hotel pockets, government and rental association fee collector pockets). As long as a home owner uses their judgement and does not compromise the peace and security of their neighbours, shouldnt we be focusing on ensuring those individual rights and freedoms? Isnt AirBnB a success because it allows people unique options to experience affordable travel experiences? I used a friends AirBnB in Mexico City and connected with an entire family in a suburban neighbourhood that I would never have met or garnered their perspective had I stayed in a hotel. I like the trend. Most often it matches people who want to travel with people wanting to pay their property taxes, cover their kids tuition, afford a season ski pass or maybe even purchase groceries? Whistler needs to support innovation and choice. piquenewsmagazine/whistler/illegal-nightly-rentals-contributing-to-housing-crunch-hotel-association/Content?oid=2635737
