Interesting news from the Erie, Pa area! yourerie/news/news-article/construction-on-erie-rail-terminal-to-start-in-fall-2014/d/news/news-article/WYQjLXSQPkidkA78skfqvg From what i gather they will build this on the site of the New York Central freight yard! The thing that gets me though is the fact that Harbor creek is worried about traffic! We call them NIMBYs (NOT IN MY BACK YARD! LOL.) When this is built they will have one hell of a back up on Walbridge Road because of the trucks waiting for the 80 plus average trains a day that pass over that crossing! The two mains see an average of 70 (Roughly 50 on CSX including the two Lake Shore Limiteds and 20 on NS.) That of course dose not count the EEC (East Erie Commercial GE Test Track.) Interesting that it will be built in Haborcreek rather than the Albion/Cranesville area. Was just talking about that a few months ago and was asking if anything had been done in the area? The big thing i do not understand is the fact of WHY? NS Used to run Roadrailers through Erie and now i see an occasional Triple Crown trailer on I90. Buffalo has an intermodal facility and i would put it in Collinwood just east of Cleveland if it was up to me! I wish them the best but have my doubts. Looks like the yardmaster will have his hands full considering he already deals with three yards (that i know of?) CSX decided that that the Ashtabula, Ohio Yardmaster could handle Erie, Pa. Witch of course used to handle Dunkirk, NY (2) yards under one manager! (We can do more with less will come back to bite CSX in the ASS one of these days! My heart goes out to the poor dispatcher! They already have their hands full with everything they deal with from MP 15 (Buffalo, NY) to 171 (Cleveland, Ohio.) That is 156 miles of headaches as it is and then adding this into the mix will be interesting! The only Good thing is Train watching from the Nagle Road Bridge will be Great considering all of the moves the facility will make everyday! LOL. More updates as i see them from a distance as i now live in Jefferson, Ohio. Thanks to Jennifer Trayer-Sheldon for the heads up on this!:)
