Interesting perspective... my parents are approaching their ending years...mom (86) had a stroke 18 yrs ago after my brother died in a motorcycle wreck...and shes suffering from alzheimers now... my dad is almost 90..but still driving themselves around. Fortunately I have an older brother who lost his longtime job..and now lives with them..taking on most of their care when they need help. I try to get over on weekends to help my brother take mom out for a walk for a little exercise. A year or two ago..mom had colon cancer...and was in great pain...but it hadnt spread outside of the colon... she needed surgery to remove much of the colon and convert to a colostomy bag... we kids had to decide whether to go ahead with surgery at 84 yrs and Alzheimers... we didnt even know if we could find a surgeon to operate on someone of her age... we did...she passed required tests and did the surgery...it was the right thing to do...she is completely out of pain...and has been enjoying life on many occasions. Her Alzheimers is slowly but steadily gaining on her...but she has been coping pretty well so far. Dave
