Interesting take on health insurance and medical options. Sumter Countians pay about 20-25% more for health insurance than say Macon Countians or Marion Countians. Why you say? Doesnt make sense does it??????? Actually it does make sense and you wont like the answer. Macon County is grouped with counties being served by healthcare providers in Macon, GA. Marion County is grouped with providers in Columbus. Sumter county is being served by the Phoebe monopoly. Competition in Macon and Columbus drives down costs for healthcare which drives down rates. Phoebes competition is bought up and run out of town by Phoebe so prices can remain higher. Higher costs equals higher rates. For the most part, areas controlled & regulated by Phoebe, have the highest medical insurance rates in the state. Arent you proud......
