Interesting to travel around the mainland and elsewhere with a cedar head wrap. The faces I witnessed, is like people are seeing a ghost and dont otherwise wish to believe it, by that, I mean white people, Im talking about white people here. Yes, the others that smiled, waved, or actually sat next to me with this sacred cedar on my head, at random bus stops, were people of color, because I think there is a bond that we know we are alive, thriving, surviving. Through the perils of daily life, for me as an Indigenous person, in my eyes, it is the struggle that for the most part, white culture is extremely prejudice to the fact that Im not wearing a toque or some other normal white thing like a hat or any other variation...I enjoy seeing people greet me with warm faces, some from India, they smile at me, or sit next me, same with people from all other parts of Asia, simply smiling. Im thinking this cedar headband will be kept closer to me. Much closer, let others know as well that Native culture is strength and we are solid proof of survival of something most terrible: erosion of sovereign rights. Watch us, well rebuild just as the world crumbles.
