International Rugby Returns to KSU By David Conyers Kennesaw State University will get its second taste of International rugby this Saturday just one month after the Women’s International sevens event that was held at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in late February. The match entails the status of world cup qualification for two countries via- ing for a slot in next year’s London rugby world cup. The American Eagles will host the Los Terros from Uruguay in the second and deciding qualifying leg for the right to participate in the world’s third largest sporting event. The Americans are currently ranked 17th and must defeat Uruguay next Saturday to represent the America’s 2 region, of which Canada has already earned the right as the America’s one representative. A loss will see the hosts playing off for a last gasp spot in the tournament through the repechage system next year. Kickoff is 3:30 pm. Yesterday in Monte Video, Uruguay the Eagles fought back from a 6-19 deficit to regain the lead in the second stanza and then allow Uruguay to snatch a last minute draw at 27-27 to split the points. This result now means whoever wins Saturday’s match goes through. Rugby next to soccer is the world second most played sport with over 200 countries registered and playing at international level. America, if they qualify have been pooled with rugby heavy weights South Africa, Scotland, Samoa and the yet to be decided Asia representative. Kennesaw State local organizing committee is urging KSU students, staff, alumni and faculty to support this high profile event that is being televised worldwide through universal sports. The exposure the school will receive is exponential given the standing rugby has on the world stage. Tickets at the schools box office or ticketalternative/Events/26036.aspx
