International Training on Ecosystem-Climate Interactions Deadline: 10 July 2014 OVERVIEW: Environmental and ecosystems services sustainability are under serious threat at the combined pressure of climate change and intense human use of natural resources. Meeting these science challenges requires understanding of the physical science basis of climate change, consideration of its impacts on all spheres of human activity, and development of policy strategies and actions. The 2014 international training on ecosystem-climate interactions will provide young researchers and practitioners from Asia-Pacific countries with advanced knowledge and skills in this fast-moving field, and to enhance the environmental capacity building for the regional sustainable development. Sponsored by APN under CBA2014-07NSY(B&ES)-Jia and organised by START Regional Center for East Asia (TEA) [start.org/about/structure/temperate-east-asia], the training sessions will cover multi-platform observation, trends and impacts analysis, and ecosystem and climate modelling. The curriculum will comprise lectures, seminars, along with site visits and excursions in CAS (cas.cn) research facilities and field stations. PERIOD of TRAINING: 8-20 September 2014, Beijing, China ELIGIBILITY: This course is especially designed to meet the professional demand of Asian young scholars working in climate change sciences with special focus on ecosystem and climate change observation, analysis, and modeling. A corresponding professional background in atmospheric sciences, ecology, or earth sciences at M.S. or higher level is a prerequisite. The training courses will be taught in English. Therefore, a good command of the English language is a prerequisite for attending the training. The preferable age of participants is between 25 and 40 years. BENEFITS: Limited funding is available for officially selected international trainees to cover their round-­‐trip economic airfares, registration, lodging, and per diem. Participants successfully completing this course are awarded a professional certificate jointly issued by the sponsors.
