International Womens Day is March 8th. Join the Womens Press Collective this Saturday to celebrate the contributions of women all over the world. WOMENS PRESS COLLECTIVE: Founded in 1982 Womens Press Collective (WPC) is an all-volunteer, non-government funded, membership association uniting writers, designers, printers and other media professionals with low-income and working people, community and labor organizers, students and other concerned community members to develop alternative media resources in the interest of low-income and working communities. Through all-volunteer effort, on a members-helping-members basis, WPC organizes a free-of-charge, self-help Publication Benefit Program, including training in writing, desk-top-publishing and printing. WPC organizes grass-roots media resources so they are available to use as an integral part of organizing strategies of low-income and working people, paying particular attention to the needs of low-paid working women. INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY: International Womens Day is an official holiday in 14 countries and celebrated in more than 100 worldwide. Its roots go back to March 8, 1908 when women working in the needle trades in New York City marched to demand better pay, shorter working hours, an end to child labor and voting rights for women. This militant act on the part of 15,000 American working women inspired the establishment two years later of March 8th as International Womens Day, dedicated to fighting for equal rights for women in all countries. internationalwomensday/
