Internships at Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center available for reliable, punctual, committed candidates now! Persons must be willing to work hard and do their best. Intern positions: School Coordinators for Peace Fashions Workshops: Coordinators will approach schools to line up groups of youth who would like to participate in workshops to create Peace fashions and be a part of the Runway Peace Fashion show planned for Sept. 28 from 2-5 at 1919 N. Milwaukee at Gorilla Tango Theatre. Coordinators will line up workshops to take place at the schools. Artists and other volunteers from CUARC will lead the workshops for youth at the schools and at CUARC. Youth groups from schools will register to win prizes by walking the runway at the Peace fashions Show on Sept. 28. Volunteer Coordinator/s Volunteer coordinator/s is responsible for general management of volunteer operations, making sure volunteers are aware of their duties as well as when and how to perform them. Duties: Supervises volunteers as requested * set up & assist with volunteer orientations and training as requested Manages volunteer schedules * Available to answer questions and resolve issues that volunteers may have Serves as a "go-to" person for interested volunteers with CUARC * Keeps track of volunteers and their activity status as CUARC Ensures that volunteers are placed in the correct project initiatives or committees based on their interests, if applicable Recruit volunteers via online websites, in-person outreach "gigs", and more! * In charge of volunteer thank yous! Executive Administrative Coordinator (s) Assists Executive Director in daily operations of CUARC, including answering phones and emails, organizing office and paper work, help as requested. Will represent CUARC at community mtgs. Event/Fundraising Coordinator/s -- Coordinate event -- Fashion Event planned for September.28 This will be 3rd year we have had a fashion show event. We know where it will be, have a date set. Theme- invite various youth & youth groups to create their fashions and model their fashions. Get it all set up. Fundraiser will benefit CUARC free programming. Involves publicity, coordination, & getting donations & volunteers involved! Property Search, Acquisition, and Follow Up-to-date- Locate (take suggestions) find out who owns the property, find out if we can get the vacant lots for the Peace Parks Project; and locate storefronts in this area (prefer within walking distance) for art gallery & art studio CUARC programs. Some may be owned by city and some may be owned by private individuals. Would like to have them long term. Write up a detailed narrative about benefits to individuals who donate property to non-profits. Also document with address, longitude/latitude and photos of North Lawndale public art such as sculptures, murals to submit to Public art of Chicago project. Keep records of all this at CUARC. DOCUMENT by Photograph and videotape -- Locate people who can (or do it yourself if qualified) produce high quality photographs of artwork, as well as attend events and programming to document activities via photographs and video. Makes sure that videos and photos are kept in accessible formats and are readily available when needed. Get photos and video on our website and on our facebook page. Plus, make sure images are used in all our publicity such as event pages, websites, fb, and on fliers. Create fliers, etc. Supplies Manager/s -- constantly look for places where supplies (art, office, materials for re-purposing, cleaning and other supplies) might be donated or obtained for discount prices. Keep a consistent follow up schedule with these places and individuals. Need materials to create assemblage sculptures for Peace Parks and landscaping supplies for the Peace Parks. Places like Craigslist often have great materials to give away if you can line people up to pick the material up. Keep looking for people who need community service hours to help with this. (often need a vehicle) There are several organizations that collect donations to give away to non-profits. Some are art related, some are not. Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator/s Reach Out to families, children, parents, individuals, organizations, churches, businesses in the neighborhood to inform them re: what CUARC is about, our mission, our programs & projects. Ask what they would like to do, encourage them to attend activities, and to volunteer. Visit people door to door within 3 blocks in each direction. Distribute fliers door to door and to churches and businesses. Also post some on poles. Engage businesses in a sponsorship program. We need people to know who we are, what we do, have them use our services, and support us. Art Gallery Program Coordinator/s Assist with art gallery program for under-represented artists & educating average people in art appreciation. Answer inquiries, recruit artists for upcoming shows, package/return art, communicate w/artists, plan & host art receptions, etc. Get people to art show events. Program Participation Coordinator/s Get the word out about programming (art receptions, art classes, gardening, PPP, HSWT, school programming, on-site art studio program, etc.) place ads & announcements, mailers, answer inquiries, etc.- goal to increase attendance at events & activities! Website Coordinator/s Update the website, keep it current, communicate with everyone including Asha Frazier (our board member), & website company. Get new info. to go on the website: website info. update and change old info, develop a hard copy and online file re: website info. for next person! Get plenty of images on website. Spaulding Kedzie stop on pink line) Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Internships are available for students and other volunteers for the right candidates at Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center. We are located in a real Chicago neighborhood and looking for adventurous interns who want a real life experience doing important work for our non-profit organization! We are making connections between art, activism, social justice issues, community work. The interns chosen will be expected to take on staff positions, be extremely reliable, work hard, be punctual, have excellent attendance, believe in what they do, achieve goals, and participate in publicizing our mission, programming, and projects. Some of the staff positions are: Executive Assistant Coordinator, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator, Acting Board Secretary, and a number of Assistant Project Coordinators. 10-30 hours per week unpaid. How have you tackled the issue of the "other" and stopped seeing people who are different from you as un-relate-able? 12.
