Interval training is a great way to enhance your cardiovascular system while also building a strong, lean body composition. It is especially important from a sporting point of view where you need to be able to perform at a high level over an extended period of time with changes of pace and intensity throughout, e.g. hockey, football, badminton, rugby. Below is an interval running program that can be used by anyone aiming to increase their cardiovascular fitness (burning fat in the process) and by athletes as part of their pre-season training: The 3/2/1/1/2/3 interval run: 3 minutes at 60-70% of your max pace, -30 seconds walk, 2 minutes at 70-80% of your max pace, -30 seconds walk, 1 minute at 80-95% of your max pace, -30 seconds walk, 1 minute at 80-95% of your max pace, -30 seconds walk, 2 minutes at 70-80% of your max pace, -30 seconds walk 3 minutes at 60-70% of your max pace -30 seconds walk Complete 2 sets.
