Interview mit Ego Likeness zu „The Order of the Reptile“ am 09.11.2006 während der Dreamcypher Tour der Crüxshadows deren Vorband sie waren BA: Hello Steve, if you would have to describe the style of your music, how would you describe it? Steve: Well I would call it Post – Goth! All of us in the band grew up with a lot of old Gothic Bands, whitch was the first in this kind of music. They inspired us very much. So Ego Likeness took a lot of different styles and mix them toghether, like Rock ‘n’ Roll influences and also Pop influences and it becomes a kind of Gothic music, that I call Post – Goth. BA: I don’t know much about the history of Ego Likeness, could you tell me? Steve: Sure! Well Ego Likeness was formed 1999. We all was in other bands before, and when they all fall apart, we started to form a project on our own. First we played a very noisy dark – hip hop style like Skinny Puppy but luckely it developed later to make it more danceable and more that it sounds more like Pop. BA: You have 3 albums on market, where is the difference in style? Steve: Well, Dragonfly was released in 2000 and it was the first beginning for getting more danceable song material, so it gets a very personal album. Water to the Death released in 2004 was more based on parts of a novel Danna wrote in this time. The novel will be released 2008 by her. It was more electronic rock we did here, recorded half in studio and half live. The new album The Order of the Reptile is for me the best album we ever done! We have finishing the electronic style and put all the details that we formed over the years toghether, so it sounds very round. We wanted to transport on this album, that you have to do your own choices in life. We describe the ways how to look into the world on different spiritual levels. BA: How long did it took to produce the new album? Steve: Well the production started in January 2006. Several songs like Smothered where written before Dragonfly was released and searched for a home. Now the new album gets theyre home and I’m really happy with the result! BA: Last year you played the first time in Europe also toghether with the Crüxshadows, how was the resonance? Steve: Well the tour with the Crüxshadows helped us to get more popular that’s true. Also theyre is a big friendship to the musicians of CXS, its necessary for such a long tour! We got and get a lot of e-mails from european fans and US fans where they wrote us, how much they enjoy our music. But I can not say there are more fans from europe than in america its nearly the same. For me the german audience on this tour was and hopely will be amazing! What you will hear today in concert is a mixture from older and new material. I really wanted to play piano on the tour but it was maybe not the best idea for a hugh world tour to bring a piano up on stage, so we dropped it! BA: Thank you very much!
