Into the Woods is a brilliant ADAPTATION of the beloved Broadway show. Frankly, I attended with some apprehension having adored the original. The film is delightful with spot on performances and good to excellent singing. I thought Rob Marshall succeeded in smoothing out some of the awkward story-telling transitions and actually unified the first and second half much more cohesively than the stage show is able to do. The production looks beautiful and lush. Yes, I did miss some delightful moments from the stage show such as the Agony reprise, Jacks goodbye to his best pal, Milky White as well as the Mysterious Man subplot. However, as a film musical it works bloody well and I highly recommend it. For years the conventional wisdom at the studios has been the public will not attend musicals because they are not interested. I assert that the public will not attend poorly created musical films which the studios have been consistently churning out since the 60s. Periodically, a good (not great) musical such as Chicago is created to prove them wrong. I hope Into the Woods is a huge success and encourages studios the pay more attention to this uniquely American contribution to world culture. Btw, the Vista theatre in LA is a wonderful venue. The airlines should study the comfortable foot room afforded every patron. https://youtube/watch?v=2Byk9Is3TjY
