Introduction to the cello:- Cellos have been used as part of orchestras, quartets and solo pieces as well. Throughout the centuries the cello has evolved and proven its lasting appeal through its persistent popularity and versatility as a beautiful-sounding instrument of depth in tonal character. Cellos looks like huge violins but unlike the violins, they are played whilst being supported on the ground by a spike. The players will be seated with the cellos held in between the legs. By the 12th century the violin had become quite popular. This was followed by the popularity of the cello starting in the 16th century in Italy. The audiences including the royal families loved the sound of the cello. So much so that requests were made for their inclusions in concerts. In time the cello led to the evolution of the double bass, an instrument with even lower tones than the cello.
