Int’l flight numbers go up by 56% at the city airport Against 385 Last Year, 601 Planes Landed This July Ahmedabad: In the month of July, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport this year recorded a growth of 56% in the international aircrafts’ movements compared to July last year. Compared to 385 flights last year, 601 flights made the city airport as their stop this July. In the period from April to July this year, the international aircrafts’ movement increased by 46.8% in comparison to the same period last year. Against the 1,654 flights between April and July 2012, as many as 2,428 flights either took off or landed at Ahmedabad airport. Meanwhile in the terms of domestic flights’ movements, the increase was minimal at 7.1% in July 2013 compared to July 2012. The airport officials claimed Ahmedabad is fast becoming a hub of international airlines. Most of the air traffic which used to get diverted to Mumbai is now coming to Ahmedabad, following the introduction of new routes and flights. “The regular flights added by Emirates and Etihad have increased the aircrafts’ movements as well as the passengers’ movement,” said an AAI official. Overall, the aircrafts’ movements recorded a growth of 13.3% in July 2013 and 7.4% between April and July compared to the last year, fifth best among all the airports in the country. The city airport is constantly growing by 7 to 8% in terms of international aircrafts’ movements in 2013. From 31.2% growth in April 2013, in terms of month wise growth, the city airport reached the mark of 56% in the first four months of 2013 compared to the last year.
