Investigations into the plane crash of a Mozambican airliner is said to be proceeding well. The Director of Air Craft Accident Investigations in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Erickson Nengola, told NBC News on Tuesday that a team of investigators was dispatched to the site. Nengola said as the crash happened on Namibian soil, the country was obliged to ensure that the investigation was done efficiently and on time. He noted that this was necessary so that family members of the victims were informed of what had transpired. Nengola said the Namibian Government had, among others, provided vehicles and equipment needed throughout the investigation while the other countries involved availed teams of qualified investigators. He was confident they would comply within the 30 days of issuing a preliminary report that should be accompanied by safety recommendations. The Namibian official gave the assurance that the two black boxes that were crucial in the investigation were being kept safe and were ready to be sent to an independent country for further investigation. The investigating team consists of nationals from Mozambique as the owner of the plane, Brazil as the manufacturer of the aircraft, Namibia as the country where the crash happened as well as Angola, Portugal and China as countries that lost their citizens in the accident.
