Investigators from Strike Force Raptor have seized more than $1.4 million worth of cannabis and a large quantity of mushrooms – suspected of being psilocin (“magic mushrooms”) – following search warrants at properties in Sydney’s north and north-west. After receiving information concerning a cannabis supply operation, police from Strike Force Raptor executed a search warrant at a property on Woodcourt Road, Berowra Heights, shortly before 7am on Wednesday (2 April 2014). Inside the property, police located: - Approximately 3kg of cannabis; - Approximately 1.9kg of mushrooms suspected of being psilocin; - Two cannabis seedlings; and, - Dozens of cannabis seeds. Four people were inside the property when police arrived. One of them, a 37-year-old man with links to the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang, was spoken to by police and is expected to be issued with a court attendance notice for drug offences. A 35-year-old woman, who was also present at the property, was found to be in possession of capsicum spray and will be issued a court attendance notice for possession of a prohibited weapon. On the same day (Wednesday 2 April 2014), investigators from Strike Force Raptor executed a search warrant at a large semi-rural property in Leets Vale. Over the course of the search, which was conducted on Wednesday evening and throughout Thursday (3 April 2014), investigators located a total of 685 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of $1.37 million. A 64-year-old man who lives on the property is assisting police with their inquiries, and charges are expected to be laid in relation to the crop site. Strike Force Raptor was established by State Crime Command’s Gangs Squad in 2009. It is a proactive and high-impact operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs and any associated criminal enterprises.
