Invitation to MLK Celebration: Please join us for the twentieth Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration. This years theme is Celebrating Harmony Together: 20 Years Honoring the Vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The inspirational words given to us by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during his lifetime are a national treasure that must be preserved and celebrated not only throughout our nation, but right here in our community. Our local Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee members and our PNC family hope that you will be able to join us on Monday, January 19 to celebrate diversity within our communities and to enjoy food and fellowship. Breakfast will begin in our cafeteria at 7:30 C.T. with doors opening at 7:15. Chancellor Dworkin will give welcoming remarks and Pastor Ron Gaston, founder and owner of The Temple Total Fitness, will serve as emcee. The keynote speaker is Rev. Dr. John Nunes, the Emil and Elfriede Jochum Chair at Valparaiso University. Musical entertainment will be provided by Delshawn Taylor, accomplished vocalist, IUSB pre-med student and Hoosier Star finalist. An excerpt from the play, Rickey, written by PNC Chair of English and Modern Languages, Dr. Jerry Holt, will be performed by Steven Becker. The display cabinet near the cafeteria will feature the artwork of Margaret Burroughs, poet, writer, activist and founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History. Our celebration will conclude by 9:30. Many generous donors have made this event possible and self-sustaining. We are so grateful for each gift, large or small. Non-perishable food items will be collected for local food banks, if you wish to bring one. We hope that you will be able to join us on Monday.
