Involvement with the criminal justice (CJ) system, substance use, and infection with HIV are syndemic in the United States. To address the burgeoning need for capable clinical scientists to work with CJ populations, the Lifespan/Brown Criminal Justice Research Training program has established a Research Program on Substance Use, HIV, and Co-Morbidities. This NIDA-funded two-year R25 training program for junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and exceptional predoctoral candidates is led by an experienced team of clinical investigators from Lifespan/Brown University who collectively have several decades of experience conducting research related to substance use, HIV, and associated co-morbidities among criminal justice populations both locally and across the nation. This program is designed to prepare participants for NIH-funded research careers in the field. The Lifespan/Brown Criminal Justice Research Program on Substance Use, HIV, and Co-Morbidities aims to provide participants with the following: 1) A solid educational foundation for clinical research 2) Supplemental education on issues unique to CJ populations 3) A mentored research experience including funds for pilot projects 4) Ongoing mentored research support and collaborative learning experiences Participants are now being recruited for this training opportunity. Applications must be received by December 12, 2014. For more information or the application, please visit LifespanBrownCJRT.org or email [email protected].
