Irish Water: I received Registration Form today - this is the response I have sent to them: 26th September 2014 Irish Water P.O. Box 860 P.O. Box 12556 South City Delivery Office Dublin 18 Cork City Cork Re: Receipt of Registration Letter from Irish Water Dear Sir In response to registration letter from you and received by me today, I have a number queries and comments. I would be grateful for comprehensive response to the items listed below before I can in all good conscience be in a position to consider the registration form: 1. I note that the water meter has been installed regarding connection to my house. The location of the water meter in within the curtilage of the house and therefore constitutes my private property. I wish clarification on what measures of advance notification or notification on the day of installation of meter was provided to me so that I could permit your personnel to enter my property? I note that not even a notice of visit was posted through my letterbox. From my professional experience in former employment elsewhere, I was engaged in work subject to Compulsorily Purchase Orders in relation to new roads projects. Never once in the course of this process did I or my colleagues enter private property without the express permission of the land owners. I therefore find it alarming and disdainful that your personnel considered themselves out with this basic courtesy and thus engage in an act that constitutes tresspass. Please furnish me with date, time and duration of their installation of the water meter. Please provide me with exact details of relevant authorisation you deem to retain to have tampered with my property in the absence of my consent. 2. Please clarify what the purpose is of a private company (Irish Water) requiring my PPS Number. No other private company, utility or otherwise has ever sought these details prior to or during entering into contractual obligations with them. 3. Irish Water states that it is collecting and retaining data on me (including PPS Number and other information), which will be held for a reasonable time and may be forwarded on to other unspecified persons and / or organisations, private or otherwise. Please explicitly state what in your mind constitutes a reasonable time. Please explicitly and comprehensively state what other unspecified persons and / or organisations, private or otherwise you may forward my personal details to and for what purpose. Please include any other companies or organisations, public or private that you are in partnership or may be entering into partnership in the future. Please also identify the exact purposes for which information on me is or will be shared with others out with of Irish Water. 4. I understand that through prior (and in date payments) of Household Charge and now Property Tax, that these comprehensively service provisions to me, inclusive of water. Please identify in relation to me and my property, at what exact date these responsibilities will be or already have been transferred to Irish Water. If there is a subsequent double payment period through transfer of these responsibilities, please identify this period and what recourses are in place to ensure that I can reclaim on this otherwise double charge of the one service. If there is no double charge, then please state what exact amount of payments already made by me for water provision will be passed on to you, amount deducted by you from bill / invoicing to me and the means of your furnishing of evidence to the same effect to me. Further to this, please provide me with clarification on what other means of payment are available to me other than through my bank account. 5. Please state to me as a private company, the exact duration of the contract you propose I enter in to with you through my submission of registration form to you, the renewal date, options to seek quotes elsewhere, what allowances are available, unit charge (and measure of unit), proposals for changes to annual levies (reductions or increases). I believe in paying for what I consume. However, until I have insufficient knowledge of what I am in effect purchasing (of a service) I remain in no position to make an informed decision of this purchase. I further believe that rational persons do not purchase items or services, of which they have poor or no knowledge. I trust you can assist me in this regard and enable me to make this purchase and enter in to a contract with you and of mutual benefit. I look forward to your response. Yours sincerely,
