Ironically, once the evolutionary materialist has eliminated all (metaphysical) reasons for life and living, he should, at once, recognize his contradiction. For merely physical beings (i.e., physical laws) cannot embrace for too long, any realization/truth that may lead to their own negation/death. Any consistent materialist recognizes that if we are merely chemical cascades that the line between life and death is arbitrarily drawn. To him, human life is as insignificant as the rust process. He is left with such ambiguity so as to undermine his mental health, which, to him, even health must become a biased and subjective term. So, in the materialists case, logical consistency, through a series of more and more unhealthy realizations, would lead him to his own (and his own theorys) negation. That is to say, in the materialists world view, only truths that provide reasons to live, will survive because all other truths would kill its messenger. The absolute materialist/atomist is therefore bound to concede, if he is to be logically consistent with materialism, that all living things (including himself) are biologically incapable of fully and consistently embracing evolutionary materialism . - A.
