Irritator of the PowerfulMassachusetts My, my, doesnt appear to be many neutrals in this conversation. Love it or hate it, the ACA is the law. At least for now. I support states experimenting with different healthcare ideas to see what works but I have large concerns with the ACA. I live in Massachusetts, home of Obamacare Junior Varsity. A couple of comments: o Its been relatively successful in MA. Coverage went from the low 90% to about 97%. No one EVER talks about Romneycare (RC)...its just part of the environment. o Interestingly, emergency room visits did not plunge after RC was enacted. That was a surprise. o And MA healthcare is still the most expensive of all the states, so no affordability was created by RC. Vermont will be going to a single-payer type system in a few years...it will be interesting to see how that works out. A great experiment. But the ACA is a national program and the Feds have a poor record of improving American lives by over-regulation. I think the ACA is a mongrel with way too many parents. I think it very well could be...wait for it...Obamas equivalent of Iraq. Its not going away soon and will reach deep into the American experience. It will be measured in good part by the promises made at its creation...you can keep your insurance, youll save $2500/year, etc. And by those measurements, it clearly fails. I think that President Obama may very well end up wishing that Chief Justice Roberts had rejected the Individual Mandate...careful what you wish for.
