Irthlingborough: Suspicious incidents We are appealing for witnesses following reports of three suspicious incidents in the area. In each of the incidents children have been approached by two men in a white van, possibly a Transit van, offered the children sweets and asked them to get in the van. The first incident happened at around 5.30pm on Wednesday, 2 October, when children aged six to eight were approached in the pocket park in Allen Road. The second incident happened at around 4.05pm yesterday (Thursday, 3 October) when two teenage girls were approached in College Street. The third incident happened at around 8.10am this morning (Friday, 4 October) when a 13-year-old girl was approached as she crossed Wellingborough Road, opposite Whitworths. Safety advice has been given out by the schools and the police presence has been increased in the area. Officers are working to establish the full facts of what has taken place and would like to reassure members of the public that no children have been taken by the men. Sergeant Andy Maher said: “We are making enquiries to establish exactly what has taken place. I would urge parents, carers and children to remain vigilant and ask anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour to call us on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress. “We would also urge anyone who may have witnessed the three reported incidents to contact us as soon as possible on 101.”
