Is India Ready For Mark Zuckerbergs Digital India - TopicsExpress

Is India Ready For Mark Zuckerbergs Digital India Initiative? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are a few points of views when looking at this initiative. Firstly, as a skeptic, it’s a market strategy for Facebook because without internet no one can log onto the social website, but complete internet accessibility would mean more revenue for the company. The means through which internet is going to be made accessible will cost tons of money but all around people are still in need of basic amenities. Which problem will be focused and solved first, is the real question. Literacy: ----------- The Indian literacy is still at the minimal rate. There are states and vast areas of India that still need education penetration. What is the point of internet all over India when children and teens have no clue what the Internet means? This needs to be addressed. Instead of advancing with creating internet available to all the people of India, there needs to be a parallel importance given to education and internet advancement. There will also need to be localized technology, where apps and websites are created for the local Indians where there are more than 700 languages and millions of communities. Can they cater to the individual needs of specific race, tribe and tongue? There is a huge belief that they can but must be realistic because this will take a lot of time. Enthralling new ideas for the young generation: ------------------------------------------------------------------- The present generation is in search of something new and is ready to dish away old stuffs. They need something to new to enthrall them and keep them occupied. Youths of this age are easy distracted but at the same time curious and ready to explore the world. For Facebook to keep them captivated and not lose this audience they will need to keep giving them something out of the box. That will be a task that Mark Zuckerberg will have to focus on. Localization: ------------------ Another huge challenge for Facebook is that they will have to work with the needs of the people of India in relation to the localization of the technology. What this basically means is that, Facebook will have to cater local language, ideology, religion and cultural set up to grab the attention of the people at the grass root level. There is news of modernization but that will not be an answer when it comes to grabbing the attention of the young people who are still stuck with the ideas of culture and belief. Opportunity: ----------------- With everything said there is also the need to create opportunities for the ratification and growth of the younger generation. There must be the integration of the “give and take” philosophy. Facebook may work with the government but the people will also look for areas where they can grab an opportunity to work with social networking giants. If opportunities are created, Facebook will have no worries at trying to woo the people of India, especially the youths of this nation.
