Is JK Still Okay? Just when I was enjouing the va-va-vom of Jimi Agabajes candidacy as a breadth of fresh air in Lagos politics, he had to soil his clean shirts with the the muck of typical Nigerian politicians; politics of blackmail. Whereas it is true that South South may block oil sales(Dokubo and many of our Ijaw brothers have been making noise about it for a while), one would have thought JK would use the occasion to appeal to sense of moderation at the national level and then focus on how a Jimi Agabaje government in Lagos State will deal with potential revenue shortfall from any South South blockade. Rather this performance is at best telling us that there is no Plan B for a Jimi Agbaje administration should Niger Delta shut down oil operations. Even Tinubu as controversial and divisive as he is ran Lagos successfully for 20 months when OBJ withheld government allocation. Is JK still OK? Well I think this is a bleep on a bad day at the office; Yes JK is still okay for the time being. Going forward, he and his team needs to separate his candidacy from that of President Jonathan as there are a number of current Lagos voters whose priorities are local issues and less on national issues. Some of these people are ready to vote for JK in the governorship candidate and Buhari for the president or none of the above. Are these category of voters not important for his election? The JK brand is on the ascendancy in Lagos; GEJ brand is an unnecessary burden that JK does not have to carry. Either way, JK needs to commision MORI or a reliable pollster to give him a reliable pattern of voting every week and prepare for any and every public election engagement.
