Is Taiyuan becoming Chinas largest parking lot? Few cities better sum up the stunning growth of #China’s second-tier cities than #Taiyuan. The bustling capital of north China’s Shanxi Province has become an urban jungle of people, cars and commerce. However, the rapid growth has also come with challenges, with one of the most noteworthy being the city’s chronic #traffic woes. Especially during peak times, the city roads are often choked to a standstill. Construction projects in and around the city only compound the difficulties. Local authorities have responded to the daunting challenges, pumping in tens of billions of Renminbi to road construction projects. Hundreds of roads and flyovers stretching a total of 180 kilometers have either been newly surfaced or upgraded in an attempt to accommodate the rapid growth. Safety, however, remains a concern, and moving forward, experts have warned that quality and safety must not be compromised. Here is a video for more.
