Is public speaking a challenge lying ahead of you in your professional life? Do you dream of performing poetry, story-telling or comedy in front of an audience hanging on to your every word? Do you happen to have a speech to make as best man at a wedding? Do you aspire to improve your social skills and feel confident in social gatherings? Are you an enthusiastic Toastmaster keen to boost your progress with some intensive in depth complementary training? Is there somewhere a soapbox waiting for you to get on? Do you want to empower yourself with better communication skills? I can help you! I have been performing as an actor, story-teller and comedian for more than twenty years, mostly in France...and in French! I have trained public speaking in English with Toastmaster International. I have completed the Competent Communicator series and am now working on the advanced manuals. When I arrived in the UK in 2008 I could hardly hold a conversation in English... and to be honest with you, when I was at school, I was so terrified by public exposure that when sent to the blackboard, I couldn’t perform even the simplest operations... I have walked the path! As a writer and story-teller my art is all about finding the right words... which is very helpful when it comes to help others moving forward! I have a degree in psychology which gives me additional insight into the communication process. Whether your improvement needs (or desires) are professional, social or artistic, there are common principles that apply similarly in all situations of addressing an audience. One of the most important –if not the only one- is “Delivery trumps content” Whether you’re wearing a sober suit and a tie or the big shoes of a circus clown, you will have to engage with your audience and win them over. You’ll have to overcome negative emotions: there are ways to keep them in check or better still turn them into positive excitement, step by step. You will train to create the best first impression, establish and maintain a good relationship with your audience and entertain them even with the most serious subjects. You’ll use vocal variety, variety of pace, body language, you will smile and make eye contact.... you will act out as we do spontaneously when we feel confident, happy, loving, passionate, enjoying ourselves... And you’ll see: it’s infectious! Once your audience reacts positively, you’ve created a cycle of positive exchanges and the rest is child’s play... liberating creativity, exploring alternative ways of delivering the same content and so on... I’ll give you positive feedback and constructive criticism and we’ll take it from there!
