Is there something wrong with christian Artists writing love songs? or songs that talk about breakups? Oh that is tough to answer or at least the last one is. the first one is easy actually. Yes, it is ok and why would it not be? Doesnt God say love your Wives? And for wives to love their husbands? Yes, he does and so does a love song not announce that you love that person? My point is that expressing your love can be done in different ways and one is writing and singing a love song about them and your love for them. The song In The Middle by Mat Kearney ends up being a love song but it does not start that way does it? Nope, in fact it starts off pretty sad and starts off as a breakup song. can you see it (or more like can you hear it?)? why does it start off like that? Because it gives it so much emption and it shows just exactly how much love it took for him to love her at the end. He mentions that there are no safety nets. There is one line that shows exactly the love and emotion going on here but I will go in to depth for the lyrics next month but here is the whole song. If you listen you will realize that not only does he go through depression (scars upon my sleeves or also known as cutting (which is cutting yourself because you are depressed also because you are suicidal/other reason too but because of depression)) (it could also be a metaphor about his pain in life itself or know as internal depression, which is depression you can not see) but he also goes through a rough relationship that he his pursuing. When you listen it is an off and on relationship that he does not want to fall apart into the middle of everything else. It ends as a love song because they finally are happy and yes it isnt perfect but he stays faithful to her. Now breakup songs can be bad but not if you respect the other person, dont speak bad of them, and dont shame them for what they did (break up). If it is more like a story then it is fine.
