Is this me or what? The University of Oregon is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Oregon State Service Corps Veterans Program Coordinator position. Oregon State Service Corps Position Description Organization: Nontraditional Student Programs at the University of Oregon Organization Mission: The mission of Nontraditional Student Programs is to enhance the educational and interpersonal experiences of nontraditional students, including veterans, while supporting and promoting their degree attainment. Position: Veterans Program Coordinator Location: Dean of Students Office, 164 Oregon Hall, 5216 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403-5216 Summary of Position: The Veterans Program Coordinator will oversee the day to day functioning of the University of Oregon Student Veterans Center and will develop and coordinate expanded programs to support the academic goals of student veterans and their families at the University of Oregon by providing them with transitional, social, and educational support. Essential Responsibilities: 1. Market the programs and services available through the UO Student Veterans Center to student veterans. 2. Train and supervise work study students serving as Veteran Center Program Assistants. 3. Speak with and answer questions from student veterans who visit the UO Student Veterans Center and assist students to access available campus and community resources. 4. Develop and coordinate an orientation for student veterans and their family members. 5. Coordinate all aspects of the Dog Tags to Ducks student veteran peer mentorship program. 6. Coordinate community building events and service projects for student veterans. 7. Organize campus events for Veterans Awareness Week, Memorial Day, etc. to recognize and celebrate student veterans and provide educational opportunities for the campus community. 8. Coordinate awareness and educational campaigns to teach students, faculty, and staff about the experiences of student veterans and their families. Examples: trainings, speakers. 9. Research best practices for serving veterans at universities around the country and share findings and proposals for future programs with university and community stake holders. 10. Complete and submit all OSSC/AmeriCorps required reports and time sheets. 11. Attend OSSC/AmeriCorps sponsored orientation, trainings, meetings, and disaster response. Marginal Responsibilities: 1. Serve as a resource and partner to the Veterans and Family Student Association in their programming and leadership transitions. 2. Implement program assessments including effectiveness, student veteran needs, etc. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Veteran, active service member, spouse, or dependent, or strong knowledge of military service. 2. An independent, motivated, self-starter with excellent organization and follow-through. 3. Experience and/or desire to work with veterans, service members, and their families. 4. Ability to collaborate and communicate with a diverse group of people. 5. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends when necessary. 6. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
