Is unjust war was human, trees, animals and safe houses ********************************************* 08/14/2014 FAO: the damage to agriculture in the Gaza Strip will have long-lasting effects Listen / Save Photo: FAO According to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) that the fighting in Gaza has forced farmers and herders to abandon their lands and also led to the paralysis of fishing activities, and resulted in higher food prices. The organization explained in a statement issued Thursday that local food production has stopped, which strongly affect the livelihoods, noting that the recovery of the agriculture sector will require substantial external assistance in the long term. According to the organization, the recent fighting has caused significant damage directly to 17 thousand hectares of agricultural land in the Gaza Strip and a large part of the agricultural infrastructure, including greenhouses and irrigation systems and farm animal feed stocks and fishing boats. According to the latest update by the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme, the Gaza Strip has lost half of the poultry, either because of injuries or directly in their homes due to lack of water and feed or care resulting from the restrictions imposed on them. The estimated loss of the fishing sector in the Gaza Strip so far about 234 tons, equivalent to 9.3 per cent of the annual catch of local fishermen. *********************************************** unmultimedia.org/arabic/radio/archives/141518/#.U-3I12P7DIU
