Isaiah 30:18—Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Read todays devotion, Wait For Him, from Beside Quiet Waters, a devotion book that reminds today’s Christians that when life’s storms threaten to overcome us, the Lord promises to lead us to find peace. Somewhere I read that God is never in a hurry, but that he is always on time. Just a little looking proves these words. The seasons come and go at the time the Creator has set. Nations rise and fall according to God’s design. His Son entered a stable when his time had fully come. So also with my life. How much happier life would be if I could just remember to wait for God’s time. Sometimes I find myself fidgeting because I forget God sets his own schedule. The same truth applies in the matter of salvation. God wants all to be saved. He wants all in his eternal kingdom. He sent his Son to pay for everyone’s sins. He wrote his Word so that everyone could know. He delays his Son’s return on the Last Day till the news of salvation has reached to the ends of the earth. Then all who believe will be saved and all who do not will be damned. Sometimes I forget to wait for the Lord. Like with Sig whose wife was terminally ill with cancer. For years she had invited, urged, even begged her husband to come with her to church. But he was too stubborn. After her death he came. Finally he was instructed and confirmed. Almost every Sunday he would say to me at the door, “Why did I wait so long? I missed so much.” My answer, “Sig, you finally have what you need and just in time.” When it comes to my life, my salvation, my efforts to witness, the end of my world, I can do nothing better than wait for the Lord. His timing is always right. Prayer: Come, Lord Jesus, I wait for you. Amen. From Beside Quiet Waters: Daily Devotions for a Year, by Richard E. Lauersdorf © 2005 Northwestern Publishing House.
