Isaiah 53:5 KJV But he was wounded for our transgressions, he - TopicsExpress

Isaiah 53:5 KJV But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. It is commonly interpreted by the Word of Faith teachers that the phrase and with his stripes we are healed, to mean physical healing. Not only does the context of Isaiah 53 not support this notion, but there is New Testament proof that this phrase means spiritual healing from the cancer of sin instead. Note: 1 Peter 2:24 KJV Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. Here Peter uses the same wording as Isaiah did, by whose stripes ye were healed. It is apparent that Peter is not speaking of physical healing whatsoever but rather spiritual healing, as just prior to this phrase in the same verse, he says that Christ bore our SINS in His own body. The healing that the Lord Jesus promises us is not from physical disease, sicknesses, ailments, etc., (although God can and does heal these sorts of things), but the healing of our souls from the death of sin. It is vitally important that we make this distinction and not be lead astray by erroneous teaching. God bless
